The real reason I went crunchy (it wasn't the wellness influencers)

By Nadia Earnest · June 9, 2026 · 4 min read

Preston plays me for laughs on the internet, and honestly? He's not wrong about most of it. I do talk to the sourdough starter. I did cry in the Whole Foods parking lot once. The linen apron is real.

But people keep asking how I actually got here, so here's the real version.

It started with a baby who would not sleep

Our first was colicky in a way that made me question everything. The pediatrician was kind but rushed. The internet was a thousand contradicting voices. And somewhere around 2am, bouncing a screaming infant, I started reading labels.

That's the unglamorous truth of it. Not a wellness influencer. Not a documentary. Just a tired mom who wanted to understand what she was putting in front of her family.

What I actually believe

I'm not here to tell you tallow cures everything. (It doesn't. But it's a great moisturizer and I will die on that hill.) What I believe is simpler:

  • Read the label. Then decide.
  • Ask why until you hit something true.
  • Community beats certainty every single time.

That last one is why this site exists. Going crunchy can be lonely. You're not alone here. Pull up a chair.
